A Heineken ad promoting their Strongbow cider shows a guy accepting an award at a spoof ceremony for the category of “best Strongbow as my other half”. In his acceptance speech, he professes his love for the cider and praises it for being his other half. Shot in 2011, the ad has lived on YouTube for four years with Heineken calling it “a clear parody of glossy awards acceptance speeches and the often perceived fake sincerity that they exhibit.”
But both the Youth Alcohol Advertising Council and Alcohol Concern believe the ad implies that alcohol is as important in life as a significant relationship with another person and fails to follow the UK advertising code. They submitted a complaint to The Advertising Standards Authority and the ad has since been banned.
