NSW Premier talks alcohol advertising

NSW Premier Mike Baird spoke about the need to combat alcohol-related advertising last Wednesday at the Take Kare gala dinner – a fundraiser for the Thomas Kelly Youth Foundation. Thomas Kelly, 18, died in 2012 after an unprovoked “one-punch” attack during a night out in Sydney.

Premier Baird discussed the need to do more when it comes to alcohol advertising in sport, citing Cricket Australia’s VB logo-emblazoned uniforms as an example.

Kelly’s brother also spoke at the event, calling on the government to prevent alcohol related violence: “Premier, will you make this promise tonight? Australia is an alcoholic; we need to rethink the way we drink.”
