One of the eight ideas developed from the ABC Heywire Regional Youth Summit was focused on reducing alcohol abuse, and now communities are able to apply for funding to put that idea into use.
Their idea looks like this:
We want to see regional Australia dance itself sober.
All across rural Australia, young men and women think they need to drink to have a good time.
In small rural communities, it can be a struggle to find a way to socialise without the use of alcohol.
Don’t Need Drinks to Dance is our solution for the young people in these communities.
We want to take over local football ovals and fill them with dancing people.
We are proposing large-scale alcohol-free dance festivals, where the whole community comes together to dance and to celebrate without the need for alcohol.
The beauty of our idea is that it can be tailored to suit the individual needs of your town.
Grant applications of up to $10,000 close 12 June – apply now.
