We’ve got to say congratulations to the Melbourne Cricket Ground’s decision to lower food and beverage prices, while maintaining alcohol prices:
“The ‘G’ will become the most affordable sporting venue in Australia after announcing a round of dramatic price drops for food and drinks for the 2015 AFL season…. The changes do not cover alcohol, although beer trays will be free, having previously cost $1.”
This announcement follows the MCG’s decision in 2013 to create ‘dry zones’ in the stadium, where no alcohol would be served for all games. Taken together, these initiatives appear to be a significant commitment by the Grounds’ executive to creating a more enjoyable, family-friendly atmosphere, and to move away from booze-drenched crowds.
