Alcohol Industry representatives to appear before Indigenous Affairs Committee
The House of Representatives Indigenous Affairs Committee will hold a public hearing on Thursday as part of the Committee’s inquiry into the harmful use of alcohol in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
Representatives of Australia’s largest alcohol retailers, Woolworths Liquor Group and Coles Liquor, will give evidence at the hearing. The Brewers Association of Australia and New Zealand, the Winemakers’ Federation of Australia and the Distilled Spirits Industry Council of Australia will also appear.
The Chair of the Committee, Dr Sharman Stone MP said: “The Committee welcomes the opportunity to hear from some of the major stakeholders in the Australian alcohol industry about their strategies to minimise the irresponsible purchasing of alcohol and alcohol-related harm in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.”
Dr Stone added: “The Committee is interested in the responses of the alcohol industry to community concerns and their view on community-led strategies to minimise harm, including alcohol accords and alcohol management plans.”
