App review: DrinkCoach

DrinkCoach is a simple and visually appealling app offering a set of tools to track and record personal drinking behaviours and any negative outcomes. It also allows the user to set goals and provides a series of simple videos, including guided meditation, to help manage cravings and urges to drink.

A limitation is that while the drink tracker can be tailored around cost and units of alcohol per drink, it doesn’t account for the individual characteristics of the user, such as gender. This means that information about harms may not be accurate for the individual (i.e. as recommended in the Australian alcohol guidelines). Overall, this is a neat and tidy little app, endorsed by the UK National Health Service and based around sound principles.
