Considering that Byron Bay is currently undergoing radical measures to reduce alcohol related violence, it is astonishing that some of the local venues here are still heavily promoting alcohol and alcohol-related products including mixing energy drinks with alcohol.
Byron Shire Council has just recently recommended that we move to ban mixing energy drinks with alcohol. The proposal was part of a Byron Shire Council submission to a review of the state’s Liquor Act. Yet the other week the Beach Hotel were publicly promoting a RedBull Beach Shack party, with RedBull Vodka Cocktails.
The Byron Bay Liquor Accord recently introduced a number of new measures, including stopping sale of energy drinks from 2am, which is actually a joke. For about 4 years now, there has been an agreement across the entire Liquor Accord to not sell ‘Jager Bombs’ which are a mix of RedBull with Jagermeister shots, so personally I am seeing the Beach Hotel’s promotion of RedBull as going against the current measures, even if they are actually promoting RedBull Vodka Cocktails, isn’t it really pretty much the same thing?
To quote from the Beach Hotel’s facebook event page:
